James Andrew DeLong
President & Chief Technology Officer

Andy DeLong has over 20 years experience in development of advanced optical systems and architectures for numerous application and markets including the electronic imaging, defense, and medical industries.  Mr. DeLong led a number of successful product development efforts including the Javelin man-portable weapon system, projection systems based on Digital Light Processing (DLP), and the VeinViewer medical imager.

Since 1997, he has served as president and chief technical officer of Brilliant Technologies Incorporated – working with a great team of folks to keep Brilliant profitable and growing through challenging times.  During that time, the team made a number of key innovations and solid contributions to the projection industry.  More than 1 million DLP projectors have been sold with optical architectures designed at Brilliant.  Customers have won a number of awards including the Popular Science “Best of What’s New” and TIME Magazine’s “Coolest Inventions” awards.

Mr. DeLong serves at the pleasure of the Lord in a number of ministries including Denton Community Church, Wilderness Connection Outdoor Ministries, and the LightFarms Foundation.  LightFarms Foundation is a new ministry founded by Vicki and Andy DeLong to promote the unification of the church locally, nationally, and internationally.

Mr. DeLong also serves on the Industrial Advisory Board for the Electronic Engineering Department at the University of North Texas.  As a company, Brilliant Technologies supports UNT EE Department through participation in the Senior Design Project – providing opportunity, resources, and know-how as needed.

Mr. DeLong obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of North Texas in 1983.  He learned product engineering in the Texas Instrument Opto-Electronics Group.  He learned optical design using Code V from the late Al Bowen of Texas Instrument Defense group.  He studied the principles of illumination and match-making under the direction of Jerry Merryman, inventor of the original hand-held calculator.  Dr. Doug Anderson taught Mr. DeLong the rest of the optical story.  And Mr. DeLong learned dedication, loyalty and humility from the rest of the team at Brilliant.
